    A seniors residence in downtown Timmins is the latest target of vandalism.

    Police said sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning, someone cut through the garage door to the underground parking garage at St. Mary’s Gardens.

    “There is no perceived logic to this type of crime because there was not a significant amount of items taken,” said Marc Depatie, communications co-ordinator for the Timmins Police Service.

    One of the victims is a family member of a resident. They had swapped cars for a night.

    “My mother-in-law just called me (to say) they had had a break-in in the garage and they had smashed a lot of the windows,” said Chantal Delorme.

    “Mirrors being broken off, damage to passenger door windows, that sort of thing occurred,” Depatie added. “The person appeared to rifle through the vehicles once inside.”

    Depatie said about half a dozen vehicles were targeted, leaving some residents feeling anxious.

    “I think (St. Mary’s Gardens) is taking the necessary precautions for them to feel secure but it’s still an uneasy feeling … because there is a problem, whether it’s homelessness or mental issues, I think we just have to address that there is a problem,” said Delorme.
