    A 74-year-old woman who is in critical condition in hospital was beaten by a man who followed her into the indoor parking garage of her Côte-St-Luc building, according to staff at the building.

    The man followed her car into the garage as she opened the overhead door and drove in Tuesday morning, said the staff member, who preferred not to be identified by name. The attacker went through her purse, but left it behind in the garage, added the staff member, who watched video footage from the security cameras in the building.

    Another resident of the building on Cavendish Blvd. found the woman around noon Tuesday. Police say she had been savagely beaten with a blunt object. She is in hospital in serious, but stable, condition in an induced coma, according to Montreal police. She was conscious, but incoherent when police arrived on the scene Tuesday. The woman suffered serious wounds to her head and upper body as though she had been attacked with a baseball bat, police said.
