TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka Fire Department crews extinguished a blaze early Wednesday at a large metal building on the city’s north side.

Flames and smoke were reported coming from the building when crews arrived.

Topeka Fire Department Battalion Chief Chad Longstaff said at the scene that the interior of the building appeared to have sustained extensive smoke damage.

A large fan was placed in an open garage door on the south side of the building to help remove smoke from the structure.

A Topeka fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.

According to the Fire Department, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined but is more than likely associated with an electrical issue. It said the estimated damage of the fire is $20,000 with $15,000 being associated with structural loss and $5,000 associated with content loss.
