    Brampton’s bus fleet receives over $170 million for new maintenance facility

    The City of Brampton’s bus fleet is getting a new public transit maintenance and storage facility thanks to all three levels of government.

    The joint funding will see $69.6 million from the federal government, $58.2 million from the provincial government and $46.6 million from Brampton for a total of $174.4 million.

    “The City of Brampton welcomes the Government of Canada’s and the Government of Ontario’s $128 million investment towards the third Brampton Transit facility,” the City said in a statement. “It is partnerships like these and support from all levels of government that help Brampton Transit positively impact the lives of our community and continue to offer a reliable service.”

    Phase 1 of the project includes the construction of approximately 400,000 square foot transit maintenance and storage facility. This will include up to 36 maintenance bays and approximately 40 overhead garage doors to accommodate up to 250 standard 40-foot equivalent buses, in addition to administrative and maintenance support space.

    Work on the project also includes installing fixed and mobile hoists, a vehicle inspection pit, an overhead crane, fuel storage and dispensing systems, a vehicle location and radio system, and backup electricity generation.

    The new facility is targeted for construction in two phases starting in 2022, with Phase 1 opening estimated for late 2024.
